Happy MLK Weekend!

We hope this weekend brings you opportunity not only to spend more time with your children, but to get them involved in their communities.  If you're planning any outings or activities revolving around Martin Luther King and things he taught, let us know in the comments!  We'd love to see how families spend this weekend together.

January is generally a peaceful month for the PTA.  Starting on February, though, we're back in full swing with school and community events!

Book Swap and Family Dance Night

Kids love books.  LOVE THEM.
This is one of our annual events, and it's scheduled for Friday, February 6th from 6:30 - 8:00pm at Waite Park.  Downstairs, you'll find tons of books you can take home with you at the end of the night, and upstairs, we'll be dancing our hearts out!  We hope you'll join us.  Even more, we hope you'll volunteer to help out!  You can either go to VolunteerSpot to sign up to help, or you can email Elaine Tucker (etucker@visi.com) or April Holen (april.holen@mpls.k12.mn.us).

There are boxes scattered throughout the school where you can donate books for the swap up until Feb 5th.  If you're wondering where you can find a box, ask your child's teacher.  They probably have one in their classroom!

And guess what?  It's all FREE.

School Start/End Times:  Good, Bad, Ugly?

At Waite Park, school starts at 9:10 and ends at 3:40.  Would you like to keep that time?  Or maybe you'd prefer earlier...or later!?  Whatever your opinion, you actually have the opportunity to influence the start/end times!  Here's info on why they're exploring changes at the Minneapolis Public Schools webpage.  And here are a few links where YOU can vote on times that work for you:

Next PTA Meeting: February 5th at 6pm

Join us at the Waite Park Rec Center, through door #2, for our monthly meeting in February.  We're working on the gala coming up here soon, and if you'd like more info on that, we'd love for you to come!  We always offer time for questions, concerns, and suggestions as well.  We usually have some kind of small refreshment, and childcare is available for ages 3 and up.

Last but not least...

January 19th is Dine Out For Schools Night at Parkway Pizza

Go out for pizza or order in.  Whichever you do, a percentage of the night's profits go to Waite Park!  Have some delicious pizza for us.  We'll thank you, Parkway Pizza will thank you, and your stomach will thank you.
