Informational Levy Meeting - Town Hall Forum, Tue. Aug. 27, 6 pm

FACT:  There are two kinds of levies

  • A referendum, or voter-approved levy
  •  A levy set by the school board within limits established by the state.
Join Minneapolis Public Schools finance experts for an informational meeting about school levies.  We want parents and community members to better understand the impact of their dollars in our schools.

At Minneapolis Public Schools, our goal is to ensure that every student graduates prepared for college, careers and life.  A levy helps fund important educational programs and services that are not fully funded by the state.  Each year, MPS can levy additional property tax revenue of up to to $189.8 million.  For Fiscal Year 2014, the Board of Education approved a reduced levy of $113.6 million in order to lessen the burden on taxpayers.  This meeting will give you an opportunity to learn more about this process.
